It’s not hard to have a good shot selection, just like how it’s not hard to have good looks when driving, people just tend to force things cause they like playing hero ball.

I treat greens the same as hitting a critical in RPG. When you hit green, it’s the equivalent of doing everything right. NBA players hit stepbacks and crazy fadeaways from long range on closely guarded shots, but a video game says a max rating and perfectly timed shots mean absolutely nothing if you're even remotely guarded? Layups are super difficult? Is 2K like this? If there's some hidden shot meter on layups, that might explain it.
Am I shooting wrong? AFAIK there's no correct way to shoot a layup, you just press or hold square however you want. And it often does some unnecessary circus layup instead of just laying it in. The ball bounces around and falls out an absurd amount of times. I don't care what my rating is, how do I miss layup after layup after layup? I shoot about 30% on my layups, if that. Layups - Good lord this has to be the biggest joke. Because a guy 5 feet away started looking at you. And when they do pass, and you have a green shot, the meter changes in the middle of your shot. It takes a bit of work, and by the time you do get open, your teammate won't pass to you because he's already on his way to the hoop. Get open, you say? Easier said than done. Which is required because I rarely have green at the top, just a little bit of yellow. A lot of my shots are perfect, top of the meter release. I went 1 for 20+ from 3 as a test, jacking up as many as I could just to see how many went in. 3's - I miss an incredible amount of 3's even though I have a 95 rating in both 3's and contested shots.
